Hello, my name is Juan Carlos and I'm an Erasmus student currently in Dublin in a Sysadmin role for my internship.
I'm working at St Davids CBS which is an only boys school sited at north in Dublin 5, Artane.
The experience it's been great and I think this is one of the best opportunities that somebody can take to grow in a professional and a personal level.
My main role consist of taking care of all the IT in the building, like repairing computers, Active Directory, network solutions, administrate Google Cloud... Right now we have future plans to migrate all the system to a cloud ecosystem like Google because it provides the perfect solution for education centers, but we're taking it step by step, so in the moment we coexist with two different environments, Google and Windows.
Talking about Ireland it's a green country, full of nature and with temperatures similar to Galicia, north of Spain. The city of Dublin is multicultural and the people are super friendly, you can expect the best and will never be disappointed.
There's some areas to check like the famous Temple Bar (a tourist trap?), Howth in the north with the beautiful market, Phoenix Park which is insanely big and you can see wild deers, or maybe go to the port and take a walk through the streets where all the big tech companies are.
As an advice, if you'll stay here get yourself a LeapCard to save on public transportation, get rain clothes and be prepared to drink a lot of beer. Most of social life revolves around a table sharing a Guinness while live Irish musicians play for the enjoyment of the people.
Great article! Thank-you very much!
